Building Resilience in Business: How One Adelaide Entrepreneur is Revolutionising Workplace Wellbeing
In a world where adaptability and mental resilience are more crucial than ever, one South Australian business is making waves on a global scale.
The Global Psychometric Institute (GPI), founded and led by solo entrepreneur and author Carolyn Cranwell, is placing scientifically-driven resilience tools into the hands of employers—helping them build stronger, more sustainable teams from the inside out.
Based in Adelaide, GPI offers a unique fusion of science, lived experience, and business insight. At the core of its offerings is the Cranwell-Cambridge Resilience Test™, a powerful online assessment tool co-developed with The Psychometrics Centre at the University of Cambridge. This groundbreaking test measures an individual's capacity to cope with change, stress, failure, and adversity—data that can be leveraged by employers to enhance team wellbeing and organisational performance.
The inspiration for GPI’s work stems from Carolyn’s deeply personal and professional journey. Years of observing Alzheimer’s carers sparked a question that would shape her future: why do some people thrive in high-stress environments while others burn out quickly? This curiosity led her to develop the Cranwell Resilience Ladder™ and author the book Hardcore Resilience – 7 Steps to Building Successful and Lasting Resilience in Your Business and Your Life, ultimately fuelling her collaboration with Cambridge and the creation of the Cranwell-Cambridge Resilience Test™.
Despite a diverse and impressive career—including roles as a dental nurse, lawyer, Ministerial Adviser, and specialist in counter-terrorism and emergency management—Carolyn encountered the common struggles of the solo entrepreneur. Lacking marketing know-how and the right industry connections, she faced challenges in getting her business in front of key decision-makers.
That’s when she turned to the Women in Business Foundations Program through the Adelaide Business Hub. “Being a solo entrepreneur can be a lonely place,” Carolyn shared. “The Program provided me with the strategies, skills and tools I needed to grow.”
Under the guidance of her mentor, Carolyn gained vital marketing knowledge, built effective networking strategies, and refined her business approach. Most importantly, she learned how to structure her digital presence to attract the right clients and position herself as a thought leader in resilience.
The results speak for themselves. Carolyn can now confidently analyse competitors, identify gaps in the market, and uncover new sales opportunities—paving the way for meaningful growth and industry recognition. Her story is a testament to the power of combining passion with education, and the importance of seeking support along the entrepreneurial journey.
