Flinders Gin: Distilling the Spirit of the Flinders Ranges

At the gateway to South Australia’s breathtaking Flinders Ranges, in the historic town of Quorn, you’ll find Flinders Gin, a regional distillery where craftsmanship, community, and country come together in every bottle.

Founded by Leah Trotta, Flinders Gin is a family-owned and operated business that has quickly become a cornerstone of regional innovation and pride. What began as a post-COVID start-up has grown into a thriving distillery and cellar door experience, employing local people and celebrating the distinctive botanicals of the Australian outback.

“We wanted to create something that felt authentic to this place,” Leah explains. “Our native botanicals are unique, resilient and full of character, they tell the story of our landscape. Flinders Gin is about sharing that story through what we make.”

A Distillery with Heart and Heritage

Flinders Gin operates out of a lovingly restored 1890s farrier’s stables, now home to both the working distillery and a welcoming cellar door. Here, visitors can sample a range of premium spirits and ready-to-drink beverages inspired by the rugged beauty of the region.

Their core range includes Farrier’s Gin (a refined take on a classic London Dry), Quandong Gin, Outback Lemon Lime Gin, Butterfly Pea Flower Gin, and Flinders Rustic Luxury Vodka. For those who prefer convenience with quality, their Gin & Tonic and Vodka Soda cans are fast becoming regional favourites.

Taking sustainability to heart, the business follows a zero-waste approach, transforming spent botanicals into artisanal products such as gin salts and lip balms, a testament to their creative, circular ethos.

More Than Gin

While the spirits are at the core of what Flinders Gin creates, the business is equally dedicated to building community and tourism experiences that enrich regional life. Through tastings, cellar door events, local collaborations, and the Maker’s Centre workshops, Leah and her team are helping put Quorn on the map as a destination for creativity and connection.

“Flinders Gin has always been about more than the product,” says Leah. “It’s about connection to people, to community, to story, and to this extraordinary landscape we call home.”

Building Strength Through the Women in Business Foundations Program

As the business continues to grow, Leah has embraced opportunities to strengthen her leadership and operational skills through the Women in Business Foundations Program, supported by Adelaide Business Hub and Kerryn from Quisk.

“In a regional business, you wear many hats, from strategy and finances to marketing and community engagement” Leah says. “The program met me exactly where I was and helped me grow into where I need to be next.”

For Leah, one of the key challenges has been expanding Flinders Gin’s e-commerce presence. Through the program’s workshops, mentoring and webinars, she’s developed greater confidence and structure in managing the technical and strategic aspects of online sales and marketing.

“It’s made our digital work far more purposeful” she reflects. “I now understand how all the pieces fit together, and that clarity has reduced overwhelm and made decision-making so much easier.”

Advice for Other Regional Entrepreneurs

Leah encourages other women in business, particularly those in regional and remote areas, to take advantage of programs like this.

“You don’t need to arrive with everything figured out” she says. “What matters is knowing where you feel stuck and where you want to grow. The program is designed to meet you at that point and help you build from there.”

Flinders Gin continues to blend heritage, innovation and community spirit, one bottle at a time from the heart of the Flinders Ranges.
