Comida: A Taste of Spain in the Heart of Hahndorf
Nestled in the vibrant township of Hahndorf, Comida is a family-owned, Spanish-inspired restaurant that brings people together over fresh, flavour-packed food, great wine and unforgettable experiences.
Under the ownership of Brianna McAvaney, Comida has become a destination for locals and visitors alike who are looking to enjoy relaxed hospitality with a distinctly European feel.
At its core, Comida is all about fresh, vibrant and tasty Spanish-inspired meals and tapas. The menu is designed to be shared, encouraging connection and conversation around the table. Complementing the food is an impressive selection of Adelaide Hills wines, alongside Spanish beers and wines, carefully chosen to enhance the dining experience and celebrate both local and international producers.
One of Comida’s standout features is its expansive beer garden, the largest in the Hahndorf area. This beautiful garden and deck space provides the perfect backdrop for long lunches, sunset drinks, and special occasions. Comida regularly hosts events, functions and weddings, offering a warm, welcoming setting that blends natural beauty with exceptional food and service.
For Brianna, joining the business was initially part of her husband’s career journey, a familiar story for many family-run enterprises. What began as support soon evolved into something more. Brianna found herself stepping deeper into the business than originally planned, discovering a genuine passion for learning new skills, challenging herself and building meaningful connections within the community.
Seeking guidance and growth, Brianna joined the Women in Business Foundations Program through the Adelaide Business Hub. Her motivation was simple: to learn from other experienced women and gain practical knowledge in an accessible and supportive environment. Prior to the program, one of Comida’s key challenges as new management was updating the social media and branding of the business to better reflect her vision.
Through workshops, webinars and mentoring with Dianne from Topknot Management and Chanelle from Ninki, Brianna’s biggest takeaway was the importance of consistency, and the confidence to just have a go. The program helped streamline Comida’s social media presence, strengthened its branding, and expanded Brianna’s understanding of marketing. The impact has been tangible, with increased social media followers and a clearer, more cohesive online identity.
Brianna’s advice to other businesses considering the Women in Business Foundations Program is wholehearted and encouraging - definitely register! She believes that continual learning is invaluable, even if not every idea is a perfect fit. Taking just one or two insights from each experience, she says, can significantly expand your toolkit over time and empower you to try new approaches with confidence.
With its vibrant food, beautiful setting and strong sense of family and community, Comida is not just a restaurant, it’s a place to gather, celebrate and savour the best of Spanish-inspired hospitality in the Adelaide Hills.
